Shine's Birthday Dinner @ Open Door Policy
If you know me well enough, I'm someone who has a memory of a goldfish, super forgetful and muddle-headed most of the time, I can leave my laptop up on the plane, went home happily to have a good sleep and only realized it when Emirates called me up the next morning to inform me about it. I didn't even realize it myself, oh gawd! The best thing is when they said: "Hi, I'm calling from Emirates!", I thought I needed to help them with some survey and it didn't even occur to me that I left my laptop on the plane. Haha yes, what a champion.
Needless to say, I can hardly remember anyone's cellphone numbers or birthdays. So you have no idea how guilty I felt when I realized I forgot to wish my Shine dearie on her birthday which happened to be my last day of paper too.... *shrugs* I felt so guilty that I suffered from insomnia that very night, dropped her a super duper long text at 3 frigging am and dated her for dinner while she was still in Hokkaido. And yes, we finally met up for a nice lovely dinner date after the longest time (:
We braved the crazy downpour last night and settled down at Open Door Policy (ODP) located at 19 Yong Siak Street. Despite the crazy downpour, the restaurant was fully booked so we had no choice but to opt for the bar counter. As you can see, we had a clear view of the kitchen which I kinda love and hate about it. I love it cos I've heard too much stories about how dirty F&B is and at least now I know my food is clean under my "supervision". And I hate it cos.... I feel watched while having my meal but then again, I bet the chefs felt the same way too! Ha, ooops.
After some 15 minutes wait... Here comes our food!
Can't wait to tuck in!
Saffron & Prawn Risotto with Fresh Tarragon and Parmesan.
Totally satisfied my cravings for some cheesy carbo last night! Definitely one of the best risottos I've tried ;)
The ODP Burger with all the trimmings, garlic fries & japanese mayonnaise.
We both thought that the burger was really good! The beef patty was juicy and I love that even the sesame bread was grilled with butter before serving. I think that makes a whole lot of difference, don't you think so?
Had so much fun catching-up with this dearie of mine, all the HTHTs & of course, cam-whoring with our silliest faces while waiting for our desserts! Truth be told, the portion of food weren't as small as we expected so we were feeling really bloated but wells, we always have space for desserts! Heh. On a side note, we're totally under-dressed! Ooops.
Halfway through our camwhoring session, the chefs placed this right in front of us which definitely put a smile on our faces, awwww.... Sometimes, it's really the smallest acts from people that put the biggest smile on your face.
Thank you so much, our friendly ODP chefs! (:
Mango Souffle with Bitter Chocolate Sauce.
And our verdict?
Oh wells. It's not that badddddd but it's definitely not great.
I can't taste both the mango and the bitter chocolate (it was sweet), boohoo.
Total damage was $80, a little pricey but the overall food & ambience was good (:
Our friendship has gone way back, way way back when I was sweet 16? Wow, that's 5 years ago! We don't really meet up as often but whenever I needed some advice about anything and everything, I'm so thankful that this dearie of mine will always be there to clear all the doubts in me (: And I sincerely hope that the pretty sunflower, a lovely dinner date and some lo-man-tic time under the tiny red umbrella has make it up for my muddle-headedness, heh.
Once again, Happy Belated Birthday! <3
Till then, xx!

Notre Dame de Paris x Girls' night out!
Holaaaaa~ I'm finally back on this space with a carefree heart! It feels so good to be lying on my bed and rambling away here with my favourite music playing in the background... Just taking my own sweet time, knowing that I've got all the time in the world to just do absolutely nothing for the next few hours before my dinner plans. This feels too good! I've been working for consecutive 4-5 days right after the last day of exams and whoop whoop, I am finally enjoying the life I truly deserve! (:
Yesterday was the opening night of the musical spectacular Notre Dame de Paris at the Mastercard Theatres at Marina Bay Sands invited by Gushcloud & Base Entertainment! So happy I could bring a +1 along with me and the first person who came into my mind was my dearest Cece cos we've been looking forward to our date at MBS after exams for the longest time so yes, what a timely invitation! ;)
Look of the day: Lace Affairs Cut In Top in Red sponsored by Fox-out.
I chose this piece without knowing it's a cropped top and I'm actually not quite comfortable with showing too much skin so I paired this up with an old piece of Hollyhoque's High-waisted paperbag pants & a nude pair of heels from New Look to complete the smart casual festive look without showing too much skin. Perfecto! ;)
Notre Dame de Paris tells the emotionally story of the unfortunate Cathedral Bell Ringer, the hunchback Quasimodo & his hopeless devotion for the beautiful gypsy, Esmeralda. According the Guinness Book of Records, this musical had the most successful first year of any musical ever! So how can you ever miss this awesome musical?!
So thankful to be seated at the first few rows cos needless to say, we definitely had the best view of the whole musical! ;)
With all the gorgeous ladies!
And with the Gushcloud family!
In my most honest opinion, I really enjoyed the Notre Dame de Paris musical. I'm never a big fan of musicals but this one really blew me away. Be it the set, the choreography, the singing, the acting.... I really love it all. All the singers involved have extraordinary voices, so good that they even gave me goosebumps. (I am not exaggerating at all.) And each and everyone of them have played their roles really well including the dancers that made the whole performance truly amazing. I definitely can't say that this is the best musical I've ever watched cos this is only the second musical I've watched till date but this one is definitely worth catching! (:
Once again, thank you Gushcloud & Base Entertainment for the tickets! <3
The musical was about 3 hours long so it only ended about 11pm and we're totally famished especially me! It was my first proper meal of the day cos I didn't really have time the whole day, oh gawd. Wanted to visit Ku De Ta but their kitchen was closed, boohoo. So we had no choice but to head down to Rise Lounge which is open for 24 hours located at the other corner of MBS!
Finally time to tuck in!
Cece's Caesar Chicken wrap with loadsaaa yummy fries! ($22)
My Salmon, Fresh Crab meat & Avocado wrap! ($30)
The healthiest & most appetizing dish listed on the menu and errrr, the most expensive one too. I don't usually splurge like this but wells, it's okay to pamper myself once in a blue moon yes? *guilty much* But it's worth every penny cos it was made with the freshest ingredients and look at that generous helping! Hey, I bet this is gonna cost about $20 in a cafe too yes? So I'm just topping up $10 more for the dining experience. I guess it's alright... *okay, just lemme live in self-denial*
But honestly, this wrap was really good!
Upon receiving news that my exam results are out, I just had to stop whatever I'm doing just to check it out. Thank you for witnessing and tolerating my all-flustered-kanjiong-spider-moment, my dear Cece! And...... WOOHOOOOOOOO I SCORED ALL MY As(!!!!!!) That definitely calls for a celebration with some cocktails! ;)
Psst! You gotta try that green cocktail called 'Coronet', it's so refreshing that you don't even feel like you're drinking alcohol at all. If you prefer something that's sour and with a stronger taste of alcohol, try the red cocktail called: 'Crown Jewel'.
Such silly & extremely happy faces last night and hee, it's always good times with Cece!
And we're definitely looking all ready for Christmas! (:
This semester was an extremely rough and hectic one for me cos it was such an eventful one.... Going through a break up 5 days after my 21st birthday + down with hand foot mouth disease (it was so bad with more than 20 ulcers in my mouth) and having to juggle between all the never-ending tests, work and pageant training was seriously..... Tough.
Looking back right now, no doubt that the journey for the past three months was tough but I don't regret any of the decisions I've made. I believe everything happened for a reason and it definitely feels awesome that my efforts have finally paid off with the best results I can ever ask for!! (:
Cheers to better days and grades!!!!!! ;)
Till then, xx!
I'm no angel, I'm just me
But I will love you endlessly.
