Hello my friends, today I'm gonna share with you something really important to me. Something about education.
So last week, I visited this pretty new and really cool school in town (yes, it is located right smack in the middle of town) known as M2 Academy as you might have seen on my Instagram: @linlovesall. I've been wanting to share with you about this ever since then so here you go! ;)
I don't know about you but since I was 15/16 when I first started hanging out in town, I've always wondered: "How awesome would it be if my school was in town?" And I guess that was one of the reasons why I really wanted to enter SMU after college but well, having said that, I'm still glad that I ended up in SIM - University at Buffalo.
However, to be honest with you, if M2 Academy was set up three years ago - right after I've graduated from college, I would have definitely considered University of South Australia at M2 Academy as one of my top few choices. I've given some thoughts about it and here are my top three reasons why:
1. Centralized Location
If there's one thing I hate about school, it will be the amount of time I have to waste traveling to school every single day. Don't you agree with me that the amount of time spent on traveling could be used more productively? That's why I really love that M2 Academy is located at Orchard Gateway @ Emerald because it is only a 10-15 minutes bus/train ride from my house!
Okay wait, before you think that this is a biased opinion of mine...
Have you ever tried taking a bus from the Clementi bus stop yet you couldn't hop onto any of the buses until the arrival of the FOURTH bus because the bus stop was so frigging congested!?
Yes, I am talking about myself because that happened on my very first day of school. I was supposed to be early for my first lesson in Uni but in the end, I was late = demerit points. How frustrating, isn't it? Pfft. Ahhh wells, I'm pretty sure I'm not alone.
Apart from the fact that you've got no more excuses to be late for school anymore, don't you love that it's also gonna be so much easier to make breakfast/lunch/high-tea/dinner plans with your friends now?
2. Conducive Environment
Just so you know, I never believed in schools conducting lectures in a huge auditorium and let me tell you why. Here's a question, don't you agree that it's pretty awkward to raise up your hand in front of 300 students if you do not understand a question? Especially if you thought that the concept is actually pretty simple and you're just so afraid or shy of making a fool out of yourself. But wait, have you ever wondered that perhaps it's not that simple after all but everyone around me just pretended to understand too.
I'm sure you've been through a situation like this before.
However, in M2 Academy, I like that they have implemented the flipped classroom approach which is different from the usual lecture and tutorial style of learning. It is a form of blended learning in which students learn new content online by watching video lectures and assigned homework is now done in class with teachers offering more personalized guidance and interaction with students, instead of lecturing. (Yay, no more homework!) This will encourage students to learn by doing and asking questions. Students can also help each other, a process that benefits both the advanced and less advanced learners.
In my honest opinion, from the moment I entered the classroom, I knew this will be such a conducive environment for the students who will be studying in M2 Academy. They were neither too big nor too small, simply the ideal classroom size with about 6 tables with a computer attached to every table. This would also mean that the professor-to-students ratio will only be about 1:36 (maximum). And I cannot emphasize how important this is.
Firstly, it is so much easier to pop a question anytime during the lesson to clarify your doubt with the professor. Secondly, with a computer attached to every table, it is so much more convenient to look up for more information online. Lastly, I always believe in team work and I like that the tables are designed in a manner that it's so much easier for interaction, discussion and etc.
3. Industry Relevant Education
We've spoken to the CEO and the team managing M2 Academy and I was so envious when I learnt that their students can gain access to relevant industry knowledge and valuable career opportunities through M2 Academy's partnerships with global multinationals across the different industries. (Such as Bloomberg, Grand Hyatt Singapore, Robeco etc. How awesome is that!!)
Some key highlights include:
- Industry-led, up-to-date curriculum, taught by world class lecturers.
Almost 70% of the professors hold doctorates and most have working experience in their respective fields.
- Corporate case studies, workshops and projects with opportunities to assist with industry-based projects or work alongside professionals from relevant industries.
And I guess this will give you a realistic job preview which is very important.
- Networking events
I have always believed that, through interaction with the professionals of the industries, you'll be able gain first-hand information as compared to just reading from a book/magazine.
- Career mentoring
(I will be graduating in 1.5 years and how I wish I've got someone to guide me too.)
- Partnership with specialist recruitrs and Industry Associations & Memberships
With strong industry partnerships and a robust curriculum that is focused on developing relevant real-world skill sets, M2 Academy strongly believes that their graduates will be highly employable and ready to succeed in the corporate environment.
I hope this piece of information is helpful to you.
Before I end off this post, here's some good news for my readers!
